Between 1936 and 1948, Cyril Snowdon owned "Sunshine" a Fife 6-metre, 6K5, built in 1927. Sunshine and his 8mR Sappho 1952 were kept on the Menai Strait and laid up ashore during the winter in virtually the same spot occupied by "Kyria" 1073. "Sunshine" has been taking part in 6-metre events recently in the UK, so I know she's still about. It was Dick Jones, the local pilot, who first interested my father in sailing and helped him select and then sail "Sunshine". Dick was the pilot
who was in charge of the training ship "HMS Conway" when she came to grief
on the Platters in the Swellies (I think in 1953). The Admiralty blamed him
for the loss of the ship, though they ignored his recommendations and
advice. I think you will find that both Richard Richard J. Jones, Harbourmaster, Caernarfon Harbour and Emrys Emrys Jones, previous owner of Kyria are descendants. Notes from Colin Snowdon - 2865
